We publish dated, attributable venue records—not inflated claims about the number of courts in India. Where a fact cannot be established from a current source, we leave it unknown.
Why this needs a method
Booking platforms, social posts and venue marketing are useful discovery tools. They are not a single, standardised national census. One listing may represent a dedicated facility, a multi-sport venue, temporary lines, a closed venue or several courts. Treating every listing as one comparable court produces a misleading total.
Definitions
- Venue
- A place represented as offering pickleball.
- Dedicated court
- A court described by an attributable source as built or reserved for pickleball.
- Multi-use court
- A court or sports space that also supports pickleball; permanent lines must be evidenced.
- Temporary setup
- Portable net or temporary lines; not counted as dedicated infrastructure.
- Listed venue
- A current third-party platform entry; not independently verified by default.
- Access
- A way to enquire or book, not a promise of availability.
Evidence labels
Verified from public primary sources means we checked a current venue/operator page, booking page or official business channel. It does not mean we visited the venue or received direct confirmation unless we explicitly say so.
Platform-reported means a current identifiable booking platform lists a venue for pickleball. We do not treat its court count, condition, price or operating status as independently verified.
Estimated means a calculation based on disclosed assumptions. Unverified means a research lead and is not published as a directory listing.
What each public record carries
Where evidence permits, a record includes venue name, locality, city and state, source link and type, check date, evidence label, court definition, court count, indoor/outdoor status, price or booking route, and editorial notes. Missing fields are intentional.
What we will not claim
Our current pilots do not establish how many dedicated courts India has, how many people play, live availability, court quality, safety, coaching quality, value for money or a “best courts” ranking. A venue record is neither endorsement nor a guarantee that a session can be booked.
How a national index will be earned
We will publish a national Court & Access Index only when the source base is broad enough to support a defined, repeatable measure across a meaningful set of cities, with dated records and disclosed exclusions. Until then, city pilots and their source mix are more honest than a national headline number.
Corrections and updates
Readers may submit an attributable public source through our venue update form. Submissions are reviewed; they never alter a record automatically. Read our full methodology and corrections policy.
