The State of Pickleball in India 2026

These measures are deliberately narrow. They should not be added together, extrapolated nationally or used as proxies for one another.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ 2025 list of recognised National Sports Federations includes the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA). That is the relevant official institutional record for this report.

Other indicators belong in a different category. The IPA’s own site reports 50,000+ players, 27 states covered and 100+ ranking tournaments. The All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) describes a separate history and reports 10,000 players and 24 states. These are first-party association claims, not compatible national measurements; their definitions, overlap and underlying registries are not independently audited here. There is no public, reproducible national court database that we can audit for this edition. Pickleball Gyan has started a structured alternative: direct venue/operator sources, a dated verification label, court type, court count where stated, locality, pricing where available and an explicit unknown field where it is not.

The initial Hyderabad dataset has three verified venue records and 18 reported research leads. That demonstrates a method; it does not establish the total number of Hyderabad venues, much less India’s infrastructure supply. Future annual reports will publish city coverage and definitions before presenting any aggregation.

The IPA’s published tournament archive is a useful named-event record, with locations, dates and—on some entries—participant counts and prize money. It is not a complete record of every Indian pickleball event, and missing participant fields cannot be treated as zero. The report therefore treats it as one organisation’s competition record, not a national tournament census. Open the IPA archive.

A credible next dataset will retain the organiser, sanctioning system, location, dates, event categories, published entry count, published prize money, source and check date separately. It will not infer attendance from a social post, a draw sheet or a marketing claim.

Our first direct-seller paddle check recorded seven listed prices from ₹999 to ₹7,290 on 16 August 2026. This is not a performance ranking, product test, stock feed or Indian market-size estimate. This report uses public government material, association pages and Pickleball Gyan’s dated structured datasets available on 16 August 2026. Government records are labelled as such. Association figures remain attributed first-party claims. Pickleball Gyan figures are either direct-source verified records, reported research leads, or calculations from the exact records in the accompanying CSV.

We did not identify a reproducible public national participation series or national court census in the sources reviewed for this edition.
